Nationals Game, Spring 2011

Once a year the mission attends a baseball game as their preparation day activity.  Everyone can get to the stadium via Metro, so it is a fun day to gather together, visit and catch up on news about the members in areas where missionaries have previously served.  Some even watch the game.

Our mission was shown three different times on the big screen. We even had out of town members who were in the stadium seek us out after they showed our picture.
One of the elders won the pre-game trivia contest.  Congratulations Elder DeKlerk!  We are grateful he knows the gospel as well as he knows baseball.

The stadium is a great place to take group pictures since everyone is already gathered together.

All of the sisters  gather for a group picture.

The Spanish language missionaries gather in the concourse.

The senior missionaries attend this activity, too.  Their assignments vary from helping in the office, serving in the visitor's center, working in the employment office, serving with the family history department in the National Archives, working with the Barlow Center and CES, and helping wards in leadership support.

The Hillsteads who work in the Archives.

Sister Huffaker from the office and the Postmas who serve in the DC 3rd Ward.

The Bushmans who serve in Anacostia

Just out of frame - Elder Walters and then Sister Walters who serve in the Archives.  Elder and Sister Dickey who serve in the Archives.  Sister and Elder Pittman who serve in the Bishop's Storehouse and employment center, Sister Knorr who (with her husband) serve in the French Tacoma Park branch.

Elder Dougall is over the finances in the office.  So it makes sense that he is keeping score.

Sister Huffaker  who does referrals, medical and mail in the office sits with Sister Lorenzana and President Lorenzana, 1st counselor in the mission presidency.  Sister Lorenzana, who is from Peru prefers soccer. She told me later that this low scoring game was as exciting as watching paint dry.

The Kowalises who serve in the Archives.

This glow about us comes from the 90+ degree, high humidity day that we watched the game.

Here are other pictures from that day.

Behind Elder Danklefson, Elder Cottrell, Elder Tomlinson and Elder Kruger sits one of the missions' greatest supporters: J. S. Armstrong.

Yes, Elder Wright and Elder Teuscher, I now know what happens when I leave my camera unattended.

Four elders left to right:  Elder Lambert, Elder Terierrere, Elder Liebhardt, Elder Searle.
Behind are the Bushmans.  Elder Christensen is watching the game.

Sister Emily Chan thinks that the two of us could be twins.  Hmm, maybe if I were 40 years younger.

Wearing this as team support is one thing - but not in high temps.

Elder Furugen and  Elder Shigeta knew each other in Japan.  But because they came out many months apart, they didn't see each other until they met at the game.
