Baptisms - English Program, Elders: 2010-11 Part 1

Most of the missionaries serving here fall into the category of English speaking elders. So it should be no surprise that the greatest number of baptisms come from them.

If you've been following the other baptism pictures, you'll notice that some who are pictured here have also served in the ASL, Chinese, French or Chinese programs as well.  While there are challenges moving back and forth between languages, there are some advantages, too.  A missionary is able to meet many more people by moving into the English program.  For example, if they serve in the ASL branch, they only interact with those in that branch.  The same holds true for the Chinese branch.  The  English program has multiple wards in each stake so the missionaries can serve in many places.

Another advantage to serving in the  English program is that those who may be native born foreign language speakers clearly benefit by speaking English only every day.

The people in these pictures are very diverse. You'll notice some come from part- member families and are 9 years old.  Others will be someone's grandparent.  Because many are dressed in white, you may  not be able to tell, but some come from the humblest of circumstances in the inner city of Washington DC while others reside in the wealthiest suburbs.

The common factor is that they have been taught by these great missionaries and that they have developed a desire to "come unto Christ" through baptism.  They are a blessing.
