Arlington Cemetery April 2012

The weather was perfect for our semi-annual trip to Arlington Cemetery. It was 70 degrees and cloudy.  This was also Spring Break week and the entire cemetery was filled with multitudes of people - including bus loads of students who had traveled from all over the country.

Fortunately 30+ missionaries are easy to spot - even amongst many tourists. The missionaries who go on this excursion are those who will be concluding their mission in the next six months.  We are sad to see their pictures here.

The woman with the umbrella is a member from Fresno, CA. who is guiding a busload of junior high students on a two week tour of Washington DC and New York City.  President, Elder Pierucci and Elder Hatch visit with her.

The elders begin arriving via the Metro.  Left to right Elder Lindsay, Elder Teriirere, Elder Lambert, Elder Pearson, Elder Stallings, Elder Carver, Elder Fowles, Elder Christensen and Elder Cottrell.

The missionaries gather before beginning the walk into the cemetery.

President Matsumori gives a brief history lesson.

The sisters arrive on a later train.  Left to right:  President Matsumori, Sister Marcy, Sister Cadenhead, Sister Allen and Sister Jones.

At the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guard.
There are so many people, Elder Greiner and Elder Pound have to shoot over the crowd.

This is only about one-eigth of the group gathered to watch the changing of the guard.

Can you find the missionaries in this group?  Thanks to Elder Rodriguez, you may be able to locate a few of them.

Photographers left to right:  Elder Cottrell, Elder Pierucci, Elder Stallings, Elder Fowles and Elder Pearson.
And this is what everyone is photographing.

Elder Lambert, Elder Lindsay and line up along the route of the guards.

After we watch the changing of the guards, we gather in the amphitheater to take pictures.  The missionaries gather according to their groups.

Elder Anderson, Elder Searle, Elder Tomlinson, Elder Rodriguez, Elder Teriirere, Elder Lindsay and Elder Lambert.
And here's the entire group.  I'm going to assume you can figure everyone's name based on the previous photos.

Our walk from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to the Arlington House puts us on a pathway where we "hold to the rod."

Front to back - as far as it is clear: Elder Carver, Elder Pound, Elder Koyle,  Elder Benke (ducking),  Sister Moore and Elder Hatch...and more.

Front to back:  A little of Elder Benke, Sister Moore, Sister Ertelt, Elder Hatch, Elder Schaap, Elder Greiner, Elder Lambert...and more.

Front to back: Elder Greiner, Elder Lambert, Elder Lee, Elder Rodriguez...and more.

Front to back: Elder Hurd, Elder Webb, Elder Christensen, Elder Kerby and more.

Front to back: Elder Lindsay, President Matsumori, Elder Danner...and still more.

And there they go...

There are many beautiful spots to take photographs - and we take advantage of it and so does everyone else.

Everyone is great at becoming photographers for one another.

From Arlington House, you can see the entire city.  It is a beautiful setting.

President Matsumori practices his photographic skills on Elder Pierucci and Elder Pearson.

Elder Schaap finds a place to rest before the walk over to the Marine Memorial:  Iwo Jima.

At Iwo Jima there are dots painted on the group to allow a pose like the one below:

Left to right:  Elder Fowles, Elder Rodriguez, Elder Teriirere as ump - Elder Behnke as catcher, Elder Tomlinson and Elder  Schaap.

And time for one last photo before heading home.
